Vestiaires au fil du temps

1985 - Cannes Bobsleigh

Even though sleighs have been used for transport for centuries, bobsleighing is a relatively modern sport.

The bobsleigh was invented at about the same time as the skeleton and luge, all of which were created in the Swiss Alpine ski resort of Saint Moritz at the end of the 19th century.

The idea came from some British holidaymakers, who decided to descend a frozen ski run in a twosome sitting on the same contraption. The term “bobsleigh” comes from the idea of a sleigh bobbing along the snow.

The first bobsleigh club was set up in 1897 in Saint Moritz, where a number of competitions were organised. It wasn’t until 1902 that the first racecourse was built outside the Swiss town.
